Denver Fire Department Orders 3 Spartan Emergency Response S-180 Custom Pumpers

BRANDON, S.D. – Aug. 24, 2026 –  Spartan Emergency Response, a brand of Spartan Fire, LLC, and leading manufacturer of fire apparatus, announces Denver Fire Department has chosen Spartan Emergency Response and its authorized dealer, Mile-Hi Fire Apparatus, to provide the city with three new Spartan S-180 Custom Pumpers that will be delivered in 10 to 12 months.

Denver Fire Department is adding the Spartan pumpers to update its fleet and to accommodate continued growth in the city. This marks the city’s first purchase of Spartan fire apparatus. Before the order was placed, the department’s mechanics and apparatus committee members tested a demo pumper and were impressed with its workmanship, the way it drove, and its similarity to apparatus in its current fleet.

The three S-180 custom pumpers will include the following features:

  • Spartan Metro Star chassis
  • Cummins X12 450 HP engine
  • Waterous CSU 2000 GPM Pump
  • 500-gallon water tank
  • Low hose bed
  • High side/Low side storage

The fire department’s top determining factors in choosing the Spartan S-180 Custom Pumpers include the 10-to-12-month lead time, the upgraded foam system, 2,000 GPM pump, the ease of accessing the chassis, and its enhanced maneuverability.

“The Denver Fire Department is super excited for the delivery of these new Spartan Custom Pumpers,” said Division Chief Phillip Morelli. “We will have these engines in service by the end of the year instead of 2030! Mile-Hi Fire Apparatus and Spartan ER were so accommodating to our department’s needs. They worked with me and the operations chief to make sure there were no operational differences. They spent the time with us to go over every little detail. Most important, they were honest and made us feel like family.”

“We are excited to partner with Denver in supplying the city with these new Spartan S-180 Custom pumpers to help protect the citizens of this community,” said Nick Hummel, director of sales, Spartan Emergency Response. “We are honored that Denver would place its trust and confidence in both Mile-Hi Fire Apparatus and Spartan Emergency Response and we look forward to serving them for years to come.”

Spartan S-180 pumpers and aerials were designed to help fire departments overcome extended apparatus lead times without sacrificing the quality, performance, or customization they expect from a custom fire truck. Utilizing an innovative modular design, the S-180 reduces engineering and manufacturing time by incorporating the most requested features and configurations while still allowing departments to tailor the apparatus to their needs. The result is a cost-effective solution that maintains the same quality, durability, safety, and performance standards as a fully custom apparatus, while significantly accelerating delivery. In many cases, departments can receive the pumper within 12 months and the aerial within 18 months, which enables them to replace aging fleets, respond to community growth, and put critical lifesaving equipment into service sooner.
